Our Mission: To ensure every child in Canada has the opportunity to thrive by equipping them with fundamental coping skills to navigate life’s challenges. Through the power of psychological science, we nurture resilience in children and youth, empowering them with the tools they need for lifelong well-being!
Who We Are
Strong Minds Strong Kids, Psychology Canada (SMSKPC) is a national registered charity dedicated to nurturing resilience in children and youth through the power of psychological science. We offer evidence-based programs that support healthy development from birth to age 18, with a focus on attachment, stress management, and capacity building. Through a primary prevention approach, we empower children and youth directly—along with the parents, caregivers, educators, and professionals who support them—with practical tools to build resilience and thrive, laying the foundation for lifelong mental well-being.
Our Program Pillars
Our programs support healthy development from birth to age 18 and focus on three key pillars:
- Attachment (Ages 0–3): Strengthening early parent-child bonds
- Stress Management (Ages 4–18): Teaching effective stress coping strategies
- Capacity Building for Thriving (Ages 10–18): Empowering youth for lifelong resilience
How We Do It
We deliver our programs in three ways: directly to kids, by empowering parents and caregivers, and by supporting educators and child-and youth-serving professionals.
We know that helping kids thrive means not only reaching them directly but also equipping the adults who support them every day. That’s why our programming is thoughtfully designed to:
Empower Adults to Support Kids’ Mental Well-Being: We take a holistic approach, offering programs that equip parents, caregivers, professionals, and other key adults with the tools and resources to support children and youth—ensuring every child has a strong network of support to thrive. Whether in the classroom, at home and everywhere in between, our programs provide adults with the tools they need to help kids manage their stress, build resilience and thrive in the face of adversity.
Equip Kids with Essential Coping Skills: Our direct-to-child/youth programming is designed to grow with kids as they age! We offer programs for elementary, middle, and secondary school-aged kids, empowering them at every stage of their development. Delivered by our expert facilitators, these programs help kids and teens build resilience, manage stress, and develop the essential skills they need for lifelong well-being
Our Story
Founded in 1974 by pioneering psychologists, we have spent over 50 years promoting mental well-being in children and youth using psychological science. At a time when mental health awareness was rare, our founders recognized that fostering resilience in childhood was key to a healthier future. Today, as a national charitable organization, we carry this mission forward by delivering psychology-informed, evidence-based programs that equip young people with lifelong coping skills. Our work has reached millions of children, youth, and the caring adults who support them—from birth through age 18—ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive.
Our Commitment
For over five decades, we have been a leader in mental health promotion and resilience-building for children and youth. As Canada’s most networked organization offering primary prevention programs, we remain rooted in scientific integrity, accessibility, and innovation. Our work is guided by a dedicated volunteer Board of Trustees, bringing together experts in clinical psychology, academia, communications, and business. Together, we design and deliver programs that empower the next generation with a strong foundation in mental well-being—creating lasting impact for children, families, and communities across the country.
