Some closing thoughts on EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION IN THE CLASSROOM

When talking about stress, which includes the stressor and stress response, young people need to feel safe and have a sense of trust. Building the spaces for these types of conversations begins with inclusive, trauma-informed, and unbiased communication. This module is intended to strengthen your understanding of effective communication in the classroom as you navigate the potential sensitives brought on by the activities in the KHST! and Stress Lessons guides.

Having a better understanding of the impact of our words, and of the biases influencing our language, we are working toward a better communication that will lead to more respectful dialogue and a more inclusive world. Effective communication in the classroom is important to create a safe space for students to feel heard, understood and become able to speak about their traumatic experiences that inform their behavior in class.
