MODULE 2 OVERVIEW
Many of the Kids Have Stress Too! and Stress Lessons activities in the program guides encourage open dialogue about stressors and kids’/youth experiences. To support these conversations in the classroom and avoid re-traumatizing and retriggering young people, educators can equip themselves with these classroom communication guidelines.
These guidelines, activities, and examples are designed for educators and kids/youth to use as they strengthen their understanding of one another. These guidelines encourage more equitable communication in the classroom.
The purpose of this module is to:
- Understand identities in the classroom,
- Incorporate trauma-informed[1] teaching and
- Define microaggressions and gaslighting and provide alternative responses.
These guidelines, activities, and examples are designed for educators to use as they strengthen understandings of one another and encourage more equitable communication in the classroom. For more content on navigating equitable communication in the classroom, and creating safer spaces, please see Module 1: Best Practices for Responding to Identity-Based Stressors.
